Abstract – Digital transformation has become the cornerstone of how modern organisations evolve and compete in today’s technology-driven world. The first chapter presents introduces this transformation as more than merely just a shift in tools; it represents a fundamental complete change in how the way businesses think, operate, and deliver value. It explains how the global transition move toward Industry 4.0 and the emerging Industry 5.0 has brought people, machines, and data together in smarter, more sustainable ways. Key technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, Big Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, and Automation are described as the primary drivers of main engines behind this transformation, driving innovation and efficiency across every sector. The chapter also highlights Malaysia’s national initiatives, particularly efforts through the MyDIGITAL Blueprint, which aims to strengthen digital readiness and competitiveness. However, it acknowledges that significant challenges remain, especially particularly in areas such as infrastructure, skills development, and organisational mindset. Abstract – Innond diseasevation stands as the backbone of progress in the digital age, serving as the link between creativity, technology, and strategic growth. This chapter begins by defining innovation as the act of transforming creative ideas into practical value through new products, services, or business models. It reviews both historical and contemporary innovators from Thomas Edison to Steve Jobs and local Malaysian figures such as Lee Thiam Wah of 99 Speedmart and Ian Ho of Shopee, highlighting how innovation continually shapes economies and lifestyles. The chapter emphasises that innovation must align with an organisation’s digital strategy to stay relevant in a competitive environment. It then explores key innovation models such as Open Innovation, Blue and Red Ocean Strategy, Design Thinking, Agile Innovation, and the Lean Startup approach, explaining how each promotes creativity, adaptability, and market responsiveness. Leadership and culture are portrayed as vital enablers top management must nurture knowledge sharing, risk-taking, and a forward-thinking mindset that supports continuous improvement. The case of Maybank illustrates how strong leadership and agile innovation culture can transform a traditional bank into a digital pioneer through initiatives like M25+, AI-driven solutions, and staff upskilling. Finally, the chapter discusses institutionalising innovation through structured teams, performance evaluation using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and dedicated innovation labs that provide the physical and intellectual space for experimentation. Altogether, the discussion shows that innovation is not a one-time event, but an ongoing organisational habit anchored in leadership, culture, and strategic alignment that sustains long-term competitiveness in an ever-changing digital economy.

Abstract – This chapter examines the opportunities and barriers of digitalisation among small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Malaysia. As SMEs play a vital role in the country’s economy, digital transformation has become increasingly important for improving competitiveness, efficiency, and long-term sustainability. The chapter discusses current adoption levels, digital maturity, and the use of specific digital tools among Malaysian SMEs. It also highlights key opportunities such as market expansion through e-commerce, access to cloud-based solutions, FinTech, and digital payment systems, supported by examples such as Dropee and StoreHub. At the same time, the chapter identifies major barriers including high technology investment costs, low digital literacy, resistance to change, and cybersecurity concerns. Government initiatives such as PENJANA, MDEC’s SME Digitisation Grant, and SME Corp’s MyAssist MSME are also discussed as important enablers of SME digital transformation. Overall, the chapter shows that while digitalisation offers strong growth potential, greater support and readiness are still needed for SMEs to fully benefit from the digital economy.
