For Stage 1 of the process, interested authors/editors are to fill in the MMU Press Book Proposal Form. This proposal form includes details of the authors/ editors, proposed book title, tentative table of contents, details of the book, proposed timeline for the publication of the book and details of external reviewers. The time frame for stage 1 is 2 weeks.

For Stage 2, authors/editors are to submit the completed MMU Press Proposal Form to mmupress@mmu.edu.my. This proposal form should be completed with all necessary details. Only completed forms will be sent out for external reviewer(s) who will review the book proposal form. The comments from the reviewer(s) will then be submitted to the Book Advisory Committee (BAC) for assessment. BAC will decide whether to approve/reject the book proposals, once per month.

In Stage 3, editors/authors will receive a notification email from MMU Press that the book proposal is accepted/rejected. This email will include documentation that will need to be completed. Editors are advised to thoroughly read and complete the documentation as required. Documentation is as listed here.

MMU Press will supply a cloud storage link, for editors to upload/ submit all documentation and manuscripts. MMU Press will also supply editors with a login and password for similarity checking in the Turnitin website. Every chapter will be uploaded onto the website, which will generate a report to see how similar the chapter is to existing writings that exists on the internet. Please note the limits that are allowed are as below. The time frame for stage 3 is 1.5 to 2 months.

  • Overall similarity = below 20%
  • Single source similarity = below 10%

During Stage 4, MMU Press will verify the submitted manuscript. The manuscript will be sent to reviewer(s) for a complete and thorough review. Reviewers are given 2 weeks to 1 month to review the manuscript. MMU Press will receive the review/ feedback from reviewers. At the same time, MMU Press will begin preparing the publishing agreement. The process of book cover design will also be initiated. Editors are to provide sample images for the design of the book cover. The time frame for stage 4 is 3 weeks to 2 months.

In Stage 5, Editors will be given the review(s) and will then, revise the manuscript, taking into account the reviewer’s comments.

Editors/authors are to read and sign the publishing . The time frame for stage 5 is 1.5 to 2 months.

In Stage 6, MMU Press will carry out similarity index and AI detection using  the Turnitin website. Please note that only the stated limits are allowed for similarity index.

The complete manuscript will be resubmitted to the BAC for approval. The time frame for stage 6 is 1 to 2 weeks.

During Stage 7, Editors are given the chance to revise the manuscript if need be. Editors are to submit the manuscript to MMU Press with the completed copyright form. The time frame for stage 7 is 2 weeks.

During Stage 8, MMU Press will initiate the . The manuscript will undergo the processes of proofreading, copyediting, typesetting and design layout.

Editors will receive these documents for one final round of checking.

MMU Press will apply for ISBN/eISBN for the book. MMU Press will finalise the page proof and send it out for printing and binding. Promotional materials for the book will be prepared. Please note that this will differ by book, depending on the target market, type of book etc.

Copies of the book will be submitted to Perpustakaan Negara Malaysia (PNM) in accordance with the Printing Presses and Publication Act 1984 (Act 301). The time frame for stage 8 is 4 months.
